Delimited Space · I was waiting for you

The DELIMITED SPACE originated as a necessity to look into the concept of EXCLUSION.

The word DELIMIT comes from the Latin word delimitare : de- ‘down’ + limitare  ‘boundary’.

The need to delimit a space is intimately linked to possesion. Their territory, their place.

This view, use and delimitation of the space, still produces problems: fights for possession, colonisation, and invasions. Constant violation of delimited spaces, both public and private.

The conceptual core of DELIMITED SPACE, and its first action, serves the challenge to emphasise this delimitation by intervening with the public space.

It is marked as if it had been torn off the landscape, separated and transformed into a significant event through the action itself.

The project aims to create a dialogue between the space and the public, for them to identify and acknowledge its existence. Especially for those who make use of that space: walking, sitting, resting, or simply passing through it to get to their destination. The idea of EXCLUSION is materialised in the delimitation itself.

In the second action of DELIMITED SPACE an object is placed out of context to accentuate the qualities of both the object itself and the space. They interrelate and create an expressive dialogue with the passer-by.

This second action evokes lost spaces, unoccupied, forcedly abandoned by people that used to occupy them.

In order for the object to be fully seen, and to read what is written, you must cross the graphic boundaries, contradicting the idea of a DELIMITED SPACE.

In the third action the interpretation of EXCLUSION through a game where the spaces turn into a physical space (object) for which one must fight, thereby evidencing the significance of the real meaning of DELIMITATION.
